Yes. Almost every private campground in the US accepts leashed dogs, and so do the developed campgrounds inside national parks. The catch is that national parks generally ban dogs on trails and in the backcountry — they’re a campground-only privilege.
What are the typical campground rules for dogs?
Leash length capped at 6 feet, never left unattended at the site, kept inside the tent or RV at night, and waste picked up immediately. Most campgrounds also require proof of rabies vaccination at check-in and limit guests to two dogs per site.
How can I find dog-friendly hiking near a campground?
National forests and BLM land are the friendliest — dogs are allowed on virtually all trails. State parks vary. National parks are the strictest. Use the AllTrails “dog-friendly” filter and cross-check the land manager’s website before driving in.
